Why Painting Brick Houses is Popular and Rejuvenating

“She’s a brick house she’s mighty mighty”...mighty mighty outdated that is. If that’s how you feel about your brick exterior, LIV is here to help. If you’ve been considering updating your brick house, we are here with the answer. Paint, it’s beautiful, is effective, it looks expensive, but it won’t break the bank.

You can update your entire exterior with paint. No expensive remodel, no giant price tag. You can turn your house into the envy of the neighborhood, a designer's dream with only a few buckets of paint, and we’re going to tell you how.

Questions to Ask Before Painting Your Brick Home

It’s normal for you to have questions. We’re here to help! Let's start by covering some of the most common questions we get.

Can your windows be painted?

Old windows can make your house look dated. Paint can work miracles when it comes to a quick update, whether you’re just looking to spruce things up for a quick sale or you want to make an impact, but your budget is tight, paint can help.

Although not all surfaces are paint friendly. Especially vinyl. If you’re dealing with vinyl you’re going to want to tread lightly, consider skipping the paint in this area and coordinating the current window color with the new improved wall color. The last thing you want is fresh paint chipping and causing your windows to look worse than before.

Can your facia, soffit, or siding be painted?

Like with windows, you’re going to need to find out what these elements are made of. It’s common for soffits, for instance, to be made from aluminum. Aluminum can be painted, but it will take a few extra steps to make it last. (Trust us; those steps are 100% worth the investment.)

If you’re going to invest in a project this big, it’s going to pay off to do your homework and invest in the right materials before you start. This is why we always recommend working with professionals.

How porous is your brick?

We all think of brick as solid, but the truth is it’s very porous. Many factors can affect the porosity of brick. From the weather to the actual material it’s crafted from. Understanding how porous the brick you’d like to paint is going to help you budget accordingly. It can ensure that you have the right amount of product on hand for your home’s desired effect.

Popular Exterior Home Paint Colors

Whites, Creams, and Tans

Whites, Creams, and Tans are making a comeback lately. Light colors can make small houses seem larger and inviting. They can make your home stand out and give it a pop of freshness. One thing to consider when opting for lighter options is the color of your roof. Believe it or not, not all colors play well together, adding a bright pop of white next to a tan and extremely weathered rooftop will be distracting and do more harm than good.

Light Greys

Grey is the new neutral. After years of white and tan being the only neutrals, grey has come along to shake things up. Painting your house light grey can add the same pop of freshness that a cream or tan can only grey provides a slightly modern edge. It also compliments greenery well and can make your whole home look new and inviting.

Dark Blue or Grey

These colors are on-trend right now, but they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Suppose you want to give your home a modern makeover with something that will look classic and timeless, consider something dark blue or grey. The darker colors are vibrant and inviting while providing a sophisticated look that will make your home extra eye-catching.

How the Paint Package Work

Before you hire a designer, it’s common to wonder how the process works. To help answer those questions, we’ve outlined the process for you below.

Questionnaire + Photos

The first step after you complete your purchase is to fill out a short questionnaire. This gives us an idea of what kind of design appeals to you and what problems you are trying to solve.

We encourage you to spend some time on this, the more thorough you can be, the more accurate your final design rendering will be. We want to get to know you and your design aesthetic, and these questions are specifically designed to help us gain a deeper understanding of what you’re looking for.

After your questionnaire is complete, we will ask you to take some photos of the property. Don’t worry; no fancy equipment is needed, just wait for a sunny day and take a few pictures with your phone.

The clearer these pictures are, the better your rendering will be. It’s helpful to remove things like visual clutter and toys so that your designers can create the most accurate rendering of your space.  Remember, we aren’t going to be visiting your home, so the more precise and accurate the pictures are, the better your final design rendering will be.

Meeting & Discussion

Once we have the initial details about your space, we will want to meet with you. Don’t worry; you’ll never have to leave your living room! We’ll set up a virtual zoom meeting, and we can discuss your preferences and your budget.

This is an excellent time for us to get to know you and ask all the questions you might have about the process. This is a time for us to dig a little deeper to precisely find out what you’re looking for and give us feedback about what you want.

This is one of our favorite steps in the design process because this is when we get to customize our design to your preferences. We know you’re going to love it!

Hand Sketch

When you finally have a rendering of your space, the design comes to life. After we have our initial meeting with you, we'll have our team review your area and take your preferences into account; then, we’ll draw on our years of experience to create a hand sketch of your space.

The sketch is yours to keep, and you can choose to do the work yourself, or even hand it off to your contractor. We will also offer you one round of revisions after the initial rendering, just if you want any tweaks made before you’re ready to get started.

Digital Rendering Add-On

Sometimes a digital rendering is best to get the specifics needed. If you think you’d benefit from this, simply add it to your cart at check out.
